Consumer rights for everyone
Many consumers are not aware of their rights, but what does the situation look like for people with disabilities and elderly? Does the support for consumers reach everyone? That is what we are trying to find out, in a project run by the organization of Swedish Consumers.
The Consumer Rights for All project is funded by the Swedish Inheritance Fund. It aims to investigate the current situation for different user groups, spread knowledge about consumer rights and develop targeted training programs for consumer counsellors when it comes to accessibility and disability etiquette.
During the initial phase of the project, the Funka Foundation is focusing on the end users, through surveys and interviews. In the next phase, the focus will be on the needs of the consumer counsellors, and how the project can best train and support them.
It is difficult to be a consumer today, with aggressive business practices and an increasingly complex market. But many people don’t know that help is available if they end up in a ‘bad purchase’. And the information out there is often not accessible to everyone, regardless of ability. That’s what we aim to change, says Cecilia Backentorn, project manager at Swedish Consumers.
Consumer rights are a matter of democracy. Of course, information, support and guidance must be available and accessible to everyone. We look forward to a fruitful co-operation!
