How do cookies work for you?
Cookie notifications are required for all types of personal data stored. That is why they pop up on most websites we visit. But how easy are they to manage and understand? We are currently investigating how users experience cookies, and we would like your help.
We are collaborating with the Norwegian Computing Center on a project to investigate the accessibility of cookie notifications. The project is funded by the Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs (BufDir) and will run during 2024. In the first part of the project, we have conducted audits to analyse how cookies work in terms of technical accessibility. In a next step, we want to find out how users themselves experience cookies. Is it easy or difficult to manage the notifications? Are the options understandable?
To get as broad a picture as possible on the topic, we are now launching a survey of users across Europe. The results will help us develop recommendations on how to make cookie notifications accessible and understandable to as many people as possible.
The survey is open until 20 November. It takes about 5 minutes to complete. Your answers are anonymous. The results of the survey and of the project as a whole will be presented in a written report and at conferences and events in 2025.
