Demand for training in digital accessibility has never been greater. This is particularly evident in the popularity of our own e-learning platform. Whilst our customers have been enjoying a well-deserved holiday, we have spent the summer finalising even more training programmes that you can take at your own pace.

We offer four courses that everyone needs:

The European Accessibility Act

This course is aimed at those who:

• sell, import or distribute products and services covered by the legislation,
• provide digital services to businesses covered by the legislation, or
• work with digital accessibility within the EU.

The course covers:

• EU policy and legislation
• Sectors are in scope
• Products and services are covered
• Standards – a way to meet the requirements
• Timing and transition periods
• Enforcement
• Disproportionate burden
• Reporting and documentation
• The requirements applicable to each sector

Introduction to Digital Accessibility

This course is aimed at those who:

• are responsible for, procure or work with digital services, websites or digital content,
• want to understand user needs,
• need to meet accessibility requirements (the European Accessibility Act and/or the Web Accessibility Directive),
• and, in fact, everyone else too – because accessibility affects us all.

By the end of the course, you will:

• Understand what digital accessibility is and why it is important
• Know the difference between accessibility and usability
• Understand who is affected by and needs accessibility, and why
• Be familiar with EU accessibility legislation and standards
• Be able to identify different user needs, disabilities and assistive technology
• Recognise common barriers to accessibility

Accessible Word documents

This course is aimed at those who:

• create, review and publish documents in Microsoft Word,
• work in communications, administration, education or other areas of document production,
• want to create documents that more people can read, understand and navigate,
• need to meet accessibility requirements (the European Accessibility Act and/or the Web Accessibility Directive),
• want to learn how to use Word’s accessibility features effectively.

After completing the course, you will be able to:

• Plan and structure documents with a focus on accessibility
• Work with headings, lists, sections and document structure
• Format text for good readability
• Use colours and contrasts in an accessible way
• Create accessible tables, images and links
• Write and manage alternative text for images and graphics
• Test the accessibility of documents using manual checks and testing tools
• Ensure accessibility is maintained when exporting from Word to PDF

Accessible PDF documents

This course is aimed at those who:

• Create, review and publish documents in PDF
• Want to create PDF documents that more people can read, understand and navigate
• Need to meet accessibility requirements (the Web Accessibility Directive and/or European Accessibility Act)
• Want to learn how to use the PDF accessibility features effectively

Prerequisites

• Access to Adobe Acrobat Pro is required for this course
• Knowledge of creating accessible Word documents is recommended

After the course, you will be able to:

• Export a source document with its accessibility settings to PDF
• Use the different panels and tools of Acrobat Pro for accessibility
• Set the reading order of the document
• Structure the document with the appropriate accessibility tags
• Tag different content types
• Handle complex content like tables and multi-level lists and set up hyperlinks
• Set accessibility attributes, like language, alternative text for images, document title
• Create accessible bookmarks
• Check the accessibility of a PDF document
• Use tools to fix issues efficiently

Accessible and flexible learning

Our own e-learning platform is fully accessible and multimodal. This means you can learn through video, audio, text and illustrations – you choose what suits you best. Naturally, all videos have subtitles and you can also read the transcript. We alternate theory with practical exercises, and you can always request teacher guidance or marking of submitted exercises if you wish or need to.
