Accessibility – an important part of sports
The Funka Foundation contributes to a project funded by the Swedish Inheritance Fund called “Träningspasset” (The workout session), which is run by Parasport Sweden. The aim of the project is to enable more children and young people with visual impairments to participate in various sports.
Among other things, the project has surveyed how young people with visual impairments experience school sport and produced a list of practical activity tips. In addition, the project is developing methodological material for sports clubs that covers reception, accessibility and inclusion.
The Funka Foundation contributes with expertise on digital and physical accessibility, delivers training for staff and volunteers at different levels, and develops manuals and checklists that will support increased accessibility even after the project is over.
“If you have never had a person with a visual impairment in your organisation, it can be difficult to know what to do to make it as good as possible. As a specialised sports federation, we can be there to provide a form of competence support in terms of reception and accessibility,” says Josefin Lindblom, Project Manager for the project at Parasport Sweden.
The digital activity repository that the project is developing can both inspire and simplify exercise and physical activities for people with visual impairments. At the same time, it provides an opportunity for knowledge exchange and further development as local initiatives can be disseminated nationally. The project as a whole creates better conditions for people with visual impairments to live physically active lives.
