Evaluation of the Nordic cooperation on disability
On behalf of the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Funka Foundation has been assigned to review all components of Nordic cooperation on disability during 2023-2026. The Nordic region consists of Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Åland.
The aim of collaboration between Nordic countries and territories is to become the world’s most sustainable and integrated area, with an inclusive welfare model, high-quality public health, and equal living conditions. Nordic disability policy is based on the UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities and other UN instruments. The Nordic cooperation on disability consists on multiple cross-sector initiatives where stakeholders at various levels share knowledge and experience.
The assignment includes desk research, workshops, surveys and interviews across the region. Apart from analysing areas such as the effectiveness of governance structure and cross-sectoral collaboration, a special focus will be on key activities such as deaf blindness and of course the added value of Nordic cooperation.
We have come a long way in advancing disability rights across the Nordic countries, but there is still much to do, says Eeva Mielonen, Senior Adviser/Knowledge & Welfare at the Nordic Council of Ministers. Nordic cooperation gives us a unique opportunity to share knowledge, learn from each other and find better solutions. This evaluation gives us valuable insights into what works best — and how we can strengthen our cooperation to create even greater added value in the future.
The result of the evaluation will support decision making on future activities and focus areas. The final report will be published during the first half of 2027.
