Collaborating and working together with partner organisations is an important part of our approach. There are many small organisations and individuals in the accessibility and disability communities who work hard to improve the lives of persons with disabilities. For these brilliant initiatives to scale, it is key to listen and learn – and to dare collaborate with various stakeholders.
Put simply, to achieve sustainable results, organisations from different perspectives need to work together. The eco-system of accessibility and inclusion encompasses stakeholders such as public sector, private sector, research institutions, end user organisations and accessibility experts.
Funka Foundation works with every type of stakeholder in all sectors to promote collaboration, spark innovation and improve the involvement of users in accessibility research and initiatives.
Working in partnerships with or on behalf of end user organisations and civil society at large is a core part of our activities. The scientific part of our work is often carried out in collaboration with leading universities and research institutions around the world. We also regularly work with private and public sector organisations and contribute actively to standardisation and policy development. We are especially happy to work in projects where different stakeholders meet and exchange experiences and perspectives.
Parts of the same puzzle
A key reason to collaborate is to expand the set of tools available to promote inclusion and involvement. For example, in terms of organizational policy; Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) are important concepts, but to become a driver for improvement, accessibility needs to be added to the mix. In a similar way, policy, legislation, and standards are crucial components, but to achieve tangible results, they need to be combined with hands-on testing, auditing, remediation, and training.
This is why we take a holistic view of accessibility, working across different domains and taking in perspectives from different parts of the eco-system.
