About us

The Funka Foundation is a not-for-profit independent organisation that carries out research to support inclusion and accessibility for persons of all abilities. 

What we do

The Funka Foundation works with research to empower and enhance the independence of persons with disabilities in every aspect of society. Our objective is to act as a knowledge centre on accessibility, user involvement and inclusion, serving all sectors and stakeholders.

Our focus is accessibility in the digital environment and communication, but we also have expertise in universal design and accessibility in sectors such as education, employment, transport or built environment.

We work to achieve our objectives through user-driven initiatives, scientific research, innovation, strategic studies, and standardisation.

Working together for more and better inclusion

To increase inclusion and participation, we all need to collaborate. The Funka Foundation works in close contact with communities and stakeholders in all sectors to support and initiate actions promoting accessibility and inclusion. Our partners include end-user organisations, leading universities, research institutions, public sector agencies and the industry.

Some of our long-lasting assignments to support communities in this field are:

• Management of the Nordic chapter of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals, (IAAP).
• Close collaboration with end user organisations across Europe when it comes to training, user testing and support.

Management and funding

The foundation is led by a board of directors who oversees operations. The foundation is non-political and non-religious.

The foundation is funded through projects, assignments, sponsor- and partnerships. We do not provide grants.

The foundation is registered at, and is under the supervision of, the county administrative board in Stockholm County, Sweden.
